Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent to court an indictment against two men on charges of high treason, sabotage, intentional damage to a critical infrastructure facility, and illegal handling of weapons and explosives.

This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office.

According to the investigation, one of the defendants had pro-Russian views and was dissatisfied with the political course of the state. In 2022, the man voluntarily made contact with a representative of the Russian special service. Having agreed to cooperate, the accused involved his acquaintance in criminal activity.

SBU CI detained the executing agents in February 2025. As it became known during the investigation, the Russian GRU officer involved in subversive activities was a former lecturer of a well-known Kyiv university, who in 2021 moved to Russia and cooperated with the occupiers.

After the outbreak of full-scale war, the professor put her former student, a 27-year-old Kyiv resident who supported Russia's armed aggression, in direct agent contact with the enemy. The woman then introduced him to another resident of the capital of Ukraine who joined the agent group. He was a 40-year-old ex-military man who had information about the locations of certain units of the Defense Forces.

Together, they went around the relevant locations, marked them on Google maps, and sent them to the curator to prepare missile and drone attacks in Kyiv. Later, the agents moved to Odesa, where they first lay low and then set fire to two mobile phone towers and several power substations on the enemy's orders.

According to the investigation, the defendants were also preparing to commit terrorist attacks using improved explosive devices, but the Security Service prevented this. The defendants are in custody. If proven guilty, the saboteurs face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
