A captured Ukrainian was convicted of treason after he defected to the enemy, where he served at checkpoints in Kherson region. He was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Kryvyi Rih District Court of Dnipropetrovs'k region.

A resident of Ukraine who voluntarily sided with the enemy during the war was sentenced to 15 years in prison for treason.

All these events began in February 2022, when the man decided to join the illegal armed groups of the DPR and later the Russian army, where he served in the occupied Kherson region. At first, he was stationed in Donetsk, where he received a military uniform and a rifle, and then moved to Kherson region. There he guarded checkpoints, checked vehicles and was involved in military operations.

At the beginning of the fall of 2022, the man was transferred to the ranks of the Russian army, where he continued to fulfill the enemy's tasks. He was later captured by the Ukrainian military and surrendered.

At the court hearing, the man pleaded guilty, repented and confirmed that he had betrayed his country. As a result, the court took into account his cooperation and repentance. Nevertheless, the court sentenced the traitor to 15 years in prison, confiscated all his property and banned him from holding any positions in government for the same period.

A former 53-year-old policeman from Donetsk region was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison for high treason, torture of civilians and cooperation with the occupiers during the temporary occupation of Kherson region. He headed a pseudo-police station created by the invaders in the village of Kalanchak. While working there, he kidnapped pro-Ukrainian residents, tortured women, forced them to perform forced labor and sing the Russian anthem.

Another policeman from Donetsk region was also sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison. In 2022, he arrived in the temporarily occupied Kherson. The accused helped set up checkpoints, conducted searches, checked documents from local residents, and participated in so-called filtration activities. The man also kidnapped pro-Ukrainian citizens and handed them over to the occupiers.
