More than two thousand Russian drones attack the Kherson community every week. To protect residents, streets are being closed with anti-drone nets, and public transportation is being equipped with electronic detection devices.
According to Suspilne Kherson, this was announced by Yaroslav Shanko, head of the Kherson City Military Administration, during a press conference dedicated to its one-year anniversary.
According to him, the priority targets for the Russian army remain critical infrastructure facilities, but the attacks are often chaotic.
"The priority for the Russian army is always the critical infrastructure of the city. However, they chaotically attack everything they see. This is just terrorizing the population. There are no military objectives," noted Shanko.
The head of the MBA said that to protect residents, anti-drone nets have already been installed on more than 23 kilometers of streets in Kherson. The city also uses electronic warfare, electronic detection and mobile fire teams.
According to Shank, since the beginning of 2026, about 100 civilians have been killed and about a thousand more injured in Russian drone attacks in the community.
To improve the safety of public transportation, all municipal vehicles have been equipped with electronic detection devices. Drivers and employees are provided with bulletproof vests and helmets. In addition, the city is testing special metal structures for buses to further protect passengers from debris and drone strikes.
The construction of shelters in Kherson also continues. Over the past year, 37 simple shelters have been repaired, and 18 more are in the works. The city has already installed 34 mobile concrete anti-debris shelters, and this year they plan to purchase new structures to be placed at public transportation stops, markets and other crowded places.
Separately, the city has created an interactive control system for shelters that allows them to be opened remotely depending on the threat in a particular area.
According to the MBA chief, Kherson continues to adapt to the new challenges of the war while seeking additional solutions to protect residents from constant attacks by Russian drones.
