An architectural monument damaged by shelling in Mykolaiv was preserved for restoration

(COLLAGE: INTENT.)

An important stage in the rescue of architectural heritage in the historic center of Mykolaiv has been completed. Specialists have carried out emergency and conservation work in an apartment building of the late XIX - early XX century, located at 41 Admiralska Street.

This became known from the Facebook page of the city department of cultural heritage protection.

The two-story apartment building of the late XIX century, known among the townspeople as the Menkini House, was destroyed during a missile attack on July 20, 2023. The blast wave completely destroyed the roof, smashed windows and doors, and severely damaged the facade walls of the pseudo-classical-style building.

Due to the lack of funds in the city budget, the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection focused on finding extra-budgetary resources. The rescue was made possible through cooperation with the Cultural Emergency Response and World Monuments Fund. With the support of the Agency for Cultural Resilience, the site became the first in the city where international donors fully funded not only conservation work but also a full 3D laser scan of the building.

The monument has now been successfully frozen: it has been protected from precipitation and further destruction. This creates the conditions for the future scientific restoration of the building, whose 3D model is now forever preserved in the digital archive of Mykolaiv's heritage.

Earlier, an illegal stall on the sidewalk was recorded in Mykolaiv. After the inspection, the owners moved it to the parking lot, and the Department of Architecture said they were not responsible for its dismantling.

Employees of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development recorded the illegal installation of a temporary structure on the sidewalk at the corner of Soborna Street and Pavlo Skoropadsky Street. The object was included in the list for dismantling because it was installed without any permits.

After the violation was recorded, the owners moved the structure to a nearby parking lot. The city's chief architect, Yevhen Polyakov, emphasized that the city did not grant permission for the structure to be placed, and control over RVs located in parking lots is not within the competence of the architecture department.
