Since the beginning of the year, the SES has registered 7 cases of emergencies on water bodies. During this time, 7 people drowned, including 3 children. Two more were rescued - a child and an adult.

According to the Mykolaiv Oblast State Emergency Service, the beach area in the city's Namiv neighborhood remains the anti-leader. In recent weeks, 3 incidents have occurred there, all in almost the same place - near the pier.

"Usually there is very little time to save a drowning person. The only hope in such cases is eyewitnesses who can provide help and call rescuers in time," the emergency workers said.

For example, on June 5, two girls disappeared while swimming in the Namyv neighborhood. A man witnessed the incident. He managed to pull one of them out, but unfortunately, he didn't have enough time to save the other.

"A 39-year-old man was also lucky yesterday. Around 4:20 p.m., an eyewitness was able to pull the victim out, and rescuers helped transport him to an ambulance," the SES said, adding that the most reliable method of avoiding accidents on the water is to follow the rules of safe behavior.

In early 2025, Mykolaiv authorities considered opening beaches in Koblevo if they could reach an agreement with the military. According to Vitalii Kim, the head of Mykolaiv's regional military administration, the main obstacle to this was the military's ban due to the mine danger. According to him, there are breakwaters in Odesa with a net stretched between them to prevent mines from hitting the beaches. Before the war, Kobleve also planned to strengthen the coastline, but the project was not implemented.

In 2024, four places of mass recreation were identified in Mykolaiv region, where they surveyed and cleaned the bottom of foreign objects, organized rescue posts with rescuers on duty, and installed buoys to mark the boundaries of swimming. Information materials on water safety, ways to help victims and self-rescue were also posted there.
