Over the past day, 24 dry vegetation fires were recorded in Mykolaiv region. The fire destroyed 55 hectares of territory.

This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region.

On March 13, a dry vegetation fire in the region spread far beyond human dwellings. The day before, the fire spread to the territory of the Yelanetsky Steppe Nature Reserve, destroying 7 hectares of the protected area and another 11 hectares of open space. The fire was extinguished by rescuers and the local Buzke fire department, trying to stop the fire that threatened the unique ecosystem.

According to the press service, any change in wind direction can cause a tragedy when the flames reach residential buildings in a matter of minutes, leaving no chance of rescue.

It was a turbulent day in the city as well: in the private sector, firefighters extinguished a fire in a residential building in the Matviyivka neighborhood, as well as a fire that broke out on the balcony of a high-rise building in the Central District of Mykolaiv. A Volkswagen Passat car burned down in Ingul district. The causes of all the fires are still under investigation.

More than 100 rescuers and 31 pieces of equipment of the State Emergency Service, as well as local fire brigades Buzke, Myhiyivka, Voyevodske, employees and special equipment of Volodymyrivka and Andriyivske forestries, Halytsynivka local fire brigade, and auxiliary equipment of farms were engaged to fight the fire.

Recently, in the Central District of Mykolaiv, while extinguishing a fire in one of the apartments of a nine-story building, rescuers found the body of a woman born in 1937. Also, as a result of negligence, a mother and her 14-year-old son were burned while trying to melt the stove with a gas can and were hospitalized.

Due to the war and numerous fires, the nature reserves of Mykolaiv region have suffered 300 billion hryvnias in damage. 96% of the land area of the Kinburn Peninsula was engulfed in flames, and more than 121 hectares within the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve were affected by fires. Almost 7,000 hectares of the Sviatoslav's White Coast National Nature Park were also affected by the fire.
