The Bohunsky District Court of Zhytomyr found a native of Odesa guilty of high treason and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property.

As stated in the court' s verdict, the man committed high treason by assisting representatives of a foreign state, the Russian Federation, in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine under martial law.

In particular, having an active pro-Russian position and following the instructions of a citizen of the Russian Federation, in order to assist representatives of the aggressor state in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine, he took photos and videos of military facilities, the location of military formations in the Odesa and Zhytomyr regions for the further transmission of this information by using a gadget with a telegram messaging and calling application.

The court decided that sincere remorse and active assistance in solving the criminal offense in this particular case cannot be considered two different and significantly different mitigating circumstances that would significantly reduce the severity of the criminal offense. Therefore, the court did not establish a sufficient number and quality of mitigating circumstances that would allow it to impose a lighter sentence than provided by law.

Earlier, a former paramedic from Odesa was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for treason. The man was recruited remotely in April 2024. At that time, he worked in an ambulance and attracted the attention of the Russian Federal Security Service with his comments in anti-Ukrainian Telegram channels.
