Violation of sanitary standards recorded on a beach in Mykolaiv region

In Mykolaiv region, water that does not meet sanitary standards was found on a beach. At the same time, most other beaches in the region remain safe for swimming, but environmentalists urged to closely monitor official information.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

According to the latest data as of July 25, 2025, the water in the Pivdennyi Buh River at the Rainbow Beach in Pervomaisk does not meet state health standards for microbiological indicators. Environmentalists noted that this indicates possible health risks from swimming in this area.

At the same time, the water on the beaches of Mykolaiv (Strelka, Chaika, Namiv recreational area), as well as in Pivdenoukrainsk, Nova Odesa and Koblevo village within the Ingul, Pivdennyi Buh, Buzkyi and Tiligul estuaries meets the standards and is safe for recreation.

The center's experts reminded residents and visitors to the region to follow the recommendations and monitor official information on water quality and the state of water bodies to avoid health hazards during their vacation.

According to the press service, the center's staff conducts weekly water quality inspections at official beaches and recreational areas of the region during the recreational season. The control is carried out regardless of local authorities' permits for swimming or the existence of prohibitions.

At the same time, more than twenty beaches for swimming and recreation have been officially opened in Odesa, which have been tested for safety in accordance with wartime conditions. Some beaches in Chornomorsk and the Primorsky district of Izmail are also open to the public.

Recently, Ukrainian scientists confirmed that the fuel oil spill from Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait in December 2024 caused large-scale pollution of the Black Sea. Thanks to the scientists, it became known that the fuel oil reached the coasts of Turkey, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Ukraine. In January 2025, fuel oil stains were found on the coast of Odesa region, and mass deaths of birds covered with oil residues were recorded in Turkey and Georgia.
