An 87-year-old man who was using crutches and had deteriorating health was evacuated from Beryslav in Kherson Oblast, as was his 64-year-old son, who had suffered a stroke a few months ago and could not move at all.
According to the Kherson regional police, both men needed an urgent medical examination.
<span>"Due to the lack of proper medical care and the lack of necessary resources, the relatives turned to the local military administration for help, and they, in turn, turned to the police," the department said.</span>
A joint evacuation team of officers of the patrol police response sector of the Beryslav district department and special forces of the Kherson police rifle battalion arrived in the city. However, Russian drones were hovering over the men's house.
"The policemen managed to safely carry the son on a stretcher to an armored car, carefully place his sick father in the car and quickly take them out of the range of possible shelling," the statement said.
Upon reaching their destination, the law enforcement officers handed the evacuees over to medics. After a medical examination, representatives of the Vostok SOS volunteer organization took both men to a safer place.
In January, while evacuating wounded civilians from Antonivka , patrol police officers in their official car hit an anti-personnel mine. A 32-year-old patrol policeman was injured. Before that, volunteers and representatives of the Kherson City Military Administration evacuated 47 people from Antonivka and other hotspots of the community. One of the volunteers was injured as a result of an explosive drop from an enemy drone.
According to Roman Mrochko, the head of Kherson MBA, volunteers and MBA employees involved in the evacuation of people from under fire risk their own lives and health to the maximum. However, despite the danger and shelling, the evacuation of civilians in Kherson region continues. To leave the frontline settlements in Kherson region, residents are advised to contact the local police, call 102, local authorities or volunteer organizations. Information can also be obtained by calling the Kherson Regional Military Administration's hotline: 0800-33-09-51.
