The police have opened an investigation into an accident that occurred on the Kuchurhansky estuary in the village of Hradenytsi, Odesa region, where three children fell through the ice.
According to the press service of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Odesa Oblast, it has been preliminarily established that two boys and a girl, aged 11 to 13, came to the reservoir to play, went out on the ice and fell through.
At first, the guards of a nearby recreation center tried to help the children, but they could not reach them because of the thin ice. Later, soldiers of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi border guard detachment joined the rescue operation after being called by the head of the village council.
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, one of the teenagers got to the shore on his own and called for help. Before the border guards arrived, the locals tried to save the children: they threw a rubber boat through the thin ice. The boy was able to cling to it, but the girl remained in the icy water. Eventually, the children were pulled out of the water, but despite the efforts of doctors, the girl's life could not be saved.

It should be noted that in 2025, a similar accident also occurred in Odesa region in February: police and rescuers spent several hours searching for three teenagers who allegedly fell through the ice in a rural pond in Odesa region. Boys aged 14 and 15 from one of the villages of the Krasnosilska community fell through the ice on a local pond and died. The boys wanted to test the ice for strength, but it did not hold. Also in Odesa, a child fell through the ice in Peremohy Park in Odesa. The child was rescued by a man who tried to crawl to the boy on the ice, but also fell through and pulled the child out while he was already in the water. Both of them are alive.
