The issuance of medical licenses has increased in the south of the country

In 2024, Ukraine issued 16% more medical licenses than in the same period last year. Odesa region is the leader among the southern regions.

This is evidenced by the data of the monitoring service Opendatabot.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 14 thousand companies have the right to practice medicine in Ukraine. The Ministry of Health has so far issued licenses to 13,887 companies and 28,054 individual entrepreneurs.

The largest peak in the issuance of medical licenses was observed in 2019, when 910 licenses were issued in 9 months. Since then, the number of new permits has decreased.

In 2024, Ukrainian companies received 355 licenses, which is 16.4% more than in the same period in 2023, but this figure still has not reached the level before the outbreak of full-scale war: in 2021, 670 licenses were issued during this period.

More than 81% of the licenses issued are currently active. The most popular areas remain nursing - 87%, healthcare organizations - 81%, and therapy - 39%.

One company can obtain licenses for several areas. Less popular areas are ultrasound diagnostics (30.6%), neurology (28.3%), obstetrics and gynecology (27.7%), and dentistry (26.9%). The least commonly licensed specialties are forensic psychiatry, toxicology, and cytology.

The largest number of companies with medical licenses is concentrated in Kyiv (20%), followed by Dnipropetrovs'k (8%), Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv regions (6% each).

Among the southern regions of Ukraine, Odesa region is the leader in terms of licenses with 589 licenses, followed by Mykolaiv region with 224 licenses and Kherson region with 181 licenses.

The list of the largest companies includes medical institutions that serve the general public. They include M.T.K. Medical Center with an annual turnover of UAH 4.2 billion, Dobrobut Polyclinic Medical Center with UAH 2.2 billion, Dila Laboratory with UAH 2 billion, and Cinevo Ukraine with UAH 1.9 billion. Pharmaceutical companies such as Darnitsa, Kyivmedpreparat, Zdorovye, and Borshchahivskiy Chemical and Pharmaceutical Plant also made it to the top.

Also, more than 78 thousand transportation licenses were issued in Ukraine, according to Ukrtransbezpeka. Only 72.8% of them remain valid. The largest number of licenses is registered in the category "International transportation of goods by trucks" - 32 thousand, or 42.8%.

In the south of the country, almost 19 thousand new entrepreneurs registered in the first eight months of 2024. Thus, 12839 sole proprietorships were established in Odesa region, 5096 in Mykolaiv region, and 1746 in Kherson region. After a sharp decline at the beginning of the invasion, the number of new registrations has stabilized and has been stable for the second year in a row.

In addition, in 2024, Ukrainian companies filed more than 18 thousand applications for trademark registration. Over the past 10 years, 267,692 trademark applications have been filed.

In 2024, the largest share of applications (37.4%) was for trademarks related to advertising and business activities. Other popular trademarks are those related to education and entertainment services (13.9%), and pharmaceuticals, medical and veterinary products and herbicides (11.1%).
