Police officer from Odesa region runs over a 7-year-old girl

Law enforcement officials have launched an internal investigation after a car accident involving a police officer. The accident occurred in the town of Tatarbunary, Odesa region, on April 29.

According to the press service of the National Police of the region, a female driver hit a 7-year-old local girl while crossing the roadway on a zebra crossing.

The child suffered minor injuries in the form of abrasions. After being examined by doctors, she was released home. A sobriety test showed that the driver was sober.

Representatives of the Main Police Inspectorate of Odesa Region and employees of the territorial unit arrived at the scene. Based on the results of the inspection, administrative materials were drawn up against the female driver under two articles - for violation of traffic rules that caused an accident (Article 124 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and for lack of insurance (Part 1 of Article 126 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

The police management initiated an internal investigation, during which the police officer was suspended from duty.

According to Opendatabot, Odesa region ranked third among the regions of Ukraine with the highest number of road accidents in 2024. This is not the first time that Odesa region has been among the leaders in terms of the number of road accidents. In March 2024, the region <b>was ranked</b> fifth with the largest number of road accidents - 181.

Intent wrote about how a driver from Kryvyi Rih caused an accident in Odesa while being intoxicated. As it turned out, the man had a certificate of an assistant to a deputy of the Kryvyi Rih City Council and was evading military registration. Over the past year, he has already been charged five times with drunken driving.

Last November, Kyiv City Council member Serhiy Mamoyan was involved in an accident in Odesa Oblast. He died on the spot as a result of the accident.
