The area of the fire that started in the Danube Delta as a result of a Russian air strike on January 2 has increased to 35 hectares.
The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service told Intent that the fire continues.
On January 2, the operational headquarters of the Izmail District Military Administration reported that a reed fire was spotted on Ankudyniv Island in the Danube River Delta during an enemy air attack using one unmanned aerial vehicle. At that time, the fire covered an area of about 10 hectares. However, due to difficult terrain conditions, emergency services are currently unable to access the fire.
The fire spread from the island to the lands of the Vylkove forestry of Izmail above the forestry of the Southern Forest Office branch of the state enterprise "Forests of Ukraine", as well as to Ochakivsky Island through the Ankudynove estuary. The district administration noted that there is no threat to the residential building, and the wind is directing the fire toward the sea.
In total, the State Emergency Service recorded 20 fires in Odesa region yesterday: seven in Odesa city and 13 in the region, including six incidents of dry vegetation on a total area of 40 hectares.
Meanwhile, according to the results of environmental monitoring, on December 27 and 28, ecologists found no oil pollution in the Black Sea and the sandy area of the beaches. The Odesa coast suffered large-scale pollution due to a sunflower oil spill. After the wind direction changed, the effects of the attack on the Pivdennyi port reached the Gulf. Otrada and Lanzheronu beaches suffered the most, as they were covered with an oily film. Dozens of dead birds were found on the shore, mostly Lesser White-fronted Geese.
