Serhiy Chervachov, a local politician, businessman, and three-term member of the Black Sea City Council, has died at the age of 63. For many residents, he is remembered not only as a politician and entrepreneur, but also as a person who implemented a number of social and infrastructure projects.
His death was announced by Chornomorsk Mayor Vasyl Gulyayev.
According to the mayor, they had known each other for nearly half a century. Gulyayev noted that during that time, they were bound by friendship, mutual respect, and a love for their hometown of Chornomorsk, despite their differing life circumstances. He also expressed his condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, noting that due to circumstances, he would be unable to attend the funeral service.
According to local media reports, Sergey Chervachov died on July 1 after a long and serious illness. He was known as the owner of the “Edelweiss” restaurant and the “Metropolis” entertainment complex, and had been involved in business in Chornomorsk for many years.
The Oleksandrivka village administration emphasized that community residents will remember Chervachov first and foremost for his contribution to the development of the village. The obituary mentioned his involvement in the restoration of the local church, the launch of the community’s first free bus service, the installation of street lighting and paving of roads, the creation of sports facilities, support for large and low-income families, assistance to veterans, the renovation of the school, the opening of new manufacturing facilities, and the creation of jobs.
In addition, projects were implemented with his involvement in the community to establish the first brewery, a yacht club, a concert and entertainment complex, a bathhouse and sports complex, a customs complex, a stadium, a taxi service, and playgrounds.
According to the Chesno movement, Serhiy Chervachov began his political career as a member of the “Youth Party of Ukraine.” He was elected three times as a deputy to the Black Sea City Council. In 2019, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine but was defeated by Serhiy Koleboshin.
Also, on the night of June 29, the heartof Dmytro Shupta—a Ukrainian poet, translator, doctor, former political prisoner of the Soviet regime, and veteran of the People’s Movement of Ukraine—stopped beating.
