In the Odesa region, police caught a 24-year-old resident of the Rozdilnyanskyi district who, in exchange for money, promised to help arrange a fraudulent disability status to avoid military service. The court remanded the suspect in custody with the right to post bail.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to the investigation, the man offered conscripts assistance in obtaining disability documents by claiming to have influence over officials on the expert team assessing a person’s daily functioning at a medical facility.

He also warned that refusing the proposed “cooperation” could lead to problems in obtaining the documents.

In one instance, he promised to help secure a Group III disability designation for a client’s relative who wanted to avoid mobilization. For his services, the man demanded $15,000: $14,000 was to be paid as a deposit, and another $1,000 after the documents were prepared.

Police detained the man in Rozdilna during a meeting with a client as the client was receiving the agreed-upon amount. The money was seized as physical evidence.

The suspect was notified that he is suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit for himself by influencing a decision made by a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion.

The penalty under this article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The judge ordered the suspect to be held in pretrial detention, with the right to post bail of 2 million hryvnias.

Also in August, in the Odesa region, a woman sought to have her husband certified as disabled—and was offered a deal to pay $5,000 for a “guaranteed” result. The surgeon who quoted this amount and his accomplice were detained by the police.
