The Black Sea branch of the state-owned Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority has announced a tender for the overhaul of berths, which involves replacing worn-out baffles in Odesa region.

According to the USPA, the expected cost of the work is UAH 52.6 million.

The project envisages a range of construction works, including the replacement of rubber bumpers at 16 berths of the branch, repair of facade surfaces, reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures and installation of additional protective elements.

In 2025-2026, the first stage of repairs is planned to be carried out as part of the procurement, including the installation of 176 bumpers (rubber cylinders) at seven berths.

Theoverhaul is needed due to the deterioration of the existing baffles: most of them have been in operation for more than 40 years. The project envisages the installation of new energy-intensive bumpers that will reduce the load on the berths and allow for the safe handling of large vessels.

In total, the modernization will cover 16 berths in the port of Chornomorsk. It is planned to increase mooring safety and expand the port's technical capabilities to handle the modern fleet.

Earlier, detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Odesa region served a notice of suspicion to the management of the construction company and a responsible official of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority as part of a pre-trial investigation into the misappropriation of funds of a state-owned enterprise.

After the reconstruction of the berth, the contractor submitted for signature the acts of work performed, in which he entered false information about the cost of materials used during the repair, which was several times higher than the market price.
