SBU officers exposed a resident of Mykolaiv for sabotage. According to law enforcement, the man was setting fire to Ukrzaliznytsia's energy infrastructure facilities on the orders of the Russian secret service.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU Office in Cherkasy region.
According to the investigation, the man agreed to cooperate with the enemy for a monetary reward, but instead of the promised "payment" he received suspicion and the threat of life imprisonment.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a 23-year-old IDP from Mykolaiv who has been living in Cherkasy region since 2023. A representative of the Russian special service came across him when he was looking for "easy money" through telegram channels.
According to the case file, the man set fire to the facilities of a regional branch of the railroad, including relay and battery cabinets that provide power to the tracks. He tried to disable the lighting of crossings and posts, as well as traffic control systems on main lines.
To "report" to his Russian supervisor, the offender filmed the arson attacks on his phone and sent the video via messenger. According to the investigation, in this way, the enemy sought to prevent the transportation of weapons and equipment for the Armed Forces to the front line.
Investigators served the man a notice of suspicion of sabotage committed by a group of persons under martial law. He is currently in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
In January, a resident of Mykolaiv was also detained in Odesa for setting fire to cars on order. The arsonist was a 21-year-old resident of Mykolaiv who rented an apartment in Odesa. The police found out that the man agreed to set fire to other people's cars for UAH 1,000 at the signal of a stranger via messenger. He bought a flammable liquid, set fire to the car of one of his neighbors, filmed the process to report to his supervisor, and fled.
