Representatives of Romanian cultural associations in Odesa region sent an open letter to Romanian President Nicușor Dan, the Romanian Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging them to resume the work of the Romanian Consulate General in Odesa.

In the document sent to the Romanian authorities, representatives of the Romanian community in Odesa region emphasize that the absence of the Romanian Consulate General in Odesa for more than three years has led to a vacuum of institutional support, frustration, and an acute sense of marginalization among ethnic Romanians, BucPress reports.

The signatories emphasized that the reopening of the consulate will have a concrete impact on access to basic consular services, such as issuing civil status documents, emergency support, and maintaining links with the Romanian state through education and culture. At the same time, they believe that active representation will support important economic and strategic initiatives in the context of Ukraine's reconstruction, strengthening Romania' s role as a responsible regional partner.

Finally, Romanian associations in southern Ukraine called on the authorities in Bucharest to urgently initiate all necessary procedures to reopen the Romanian Consulate General in Odesa, emphasizing that this gesture would be not only an administrative reparation, but also a firm declaration of national solidarity and commitment to the historical Romanian communities.

The second round of the Romanian presidential election ended with the victory of Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan, who was supported by 6 million 168.6 thousand voters, or 53.6%. Nicușor Dan is a supporter of continued cooperation with the European Union and has not proclaimed any territorial claims to Ukraine.
