Odesa region allocated 36 million for fire safety in schools

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to allocate UAH 36 million 50 thousand to Odesa region for the installation of fire protection in secondary education institutions.

According to the estimate, Mykolaiv region was allocated UAH 7.7 million, and Kherson region was not allocated any money.

However, Odesa region ranks fourth in terms of the amount of funds allocated. The first is Lviv region, which is to receive UAH 51.5 million, the second is Kyiv region, which is to receive UAH 48 million, and the third is UAH 38.4 million. The last in the top five is Chernivtsi Oblast, which is to receive UAH 35 million 350 thousand.

The total amount of the subvention is UAH 500 million. The funds will be used to install fire alarms, warning and evacuation systems, fire extinguishing, fire water supply and lightning protection. Fire safety has become one of the basic conditions for full-time and blended learning during the war.

First and foremost, funding should be directed to military and military sports lyceums, lyceums with enhanced military and physical training, educational and rehabilitation centers, and special schools. Further, general secondary education institutions with at least 200 students.

Conditions for receiving the subvention:

• the educational institution provides full-time or mixed form of education;
• the institution is located in a community with a very high, high, moderate or satisfactory level of security risk;
• the buildings do not have critical damage or have already been restored;
• information about the damage (if any) is confirmed in state registers;
• the facility has recorded fire safety violations;
• design and estimate documentation with expertise is available;
• the founder guarantees the functioning of the institution and the elimination of other violations;
• co-financing from the local budget is provided;
• the project must be completed within the current budget year.

The amount of state funding depends on the financial capacity of the community: the state can cover 70% to 95% of the project cost depending on the community's tax capacity index, while the rest must be provided by local budgets.
