Soldier detained in Odesa region for trading places in the back

Police detained a serviceman of one of the military units stationed in Odesa region on suspicion of influence peddling in Odesa region.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to the investigation, the 28-year-old soldier organized an illegal enrichment scheme. He extorted money from men of conscription age for their registration in rear units with fictitious service. This, he said, allowed him to avoid further assignment to combat units. He promised to influence the relevant decisions through the right people in the military .

The offender was detained on March 25 immediately after receiving USD 2.5 thousand of illegal benefit for employing a man in one of the military training centers. The money was seized as material evidence. The suspect was detained in accordance with the procedural procedure.

Investigators have served him a notice of suspicion of receiving an illegal benefit to influence the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefit. The issue of choosing a type of detention is being decided.

Earlier, in Odesa, law enforcement officers exposed an official of one of the district territorial centers for recruitment and social support who demanded money to influence personnel decisions. In exchange for UAH 300,000, he promised to help a serviceman of an assault regiment transfer from the front line to a rear unit, as well as to assist in his subsequent dismissal from service.

In Odesa, the sale of rescue squad certificates to avoid mobilization was also exposed. The men were promised to "solve the issue" of conscription through influence on the TCC.
