In Kherson region, law enforcement officers exposed a large-scale network of collaborators who were engaged in kidnapping and torture under the guise of pseudo-police. The criminal organization included both local residents and former and current law enforcement officers.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
In the Kherson region, the activities of 16 people involved in the functioning of a criminal group that operated in the temporarily occupied Skadovsk under the guise of the so-called "law enforcement agency" of the aggressor country were established.
According to the investigation, after occupying a part of the region, the invaders created an illegal "Skadovsk District Police Department" subordinated to the pseudo-structures of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Within this formation, a separate criminal group operated, using the "service" as a cover for repressions against the civilian population.
The organization was headed by a Ukrainian citizen who recruited individuals with pro-Russian views, as well as former and current Ukrainian law enforcement officers. Members were given fake positions and titles to create the illusion of legitimacy.
In reality, members of the group were persecuting local residents who supported Ukraine. People were abducted from the streets or from their homes, and Ukrainian law enforcement officers were detained.
The victims were subjected to severe beatings, psychological pressure and torture, forcing them to give the desired testimony or recant their position. They were illegally detained in the basement of the seized police station without any communication with the outside world and without any legal grounds.
Currently, all of the defendants have been notified of suspicion under a number of serious articles, including the creation of a criminal organization, collaboration, kidnapping and torture. The investigation is ongoing - law enforcement officers are identifying other people involved in the activities of this structure.
Also in Kakhovka, during the occupation, a civilian man was kept in a basement for almost two weeks and tortured to extract a"confession". Two members of the pseudo-police were accused of ill-treatment and have already been notified of suspicion in absence.
