Oleshky resident sentenced to life in prison for high treason

In the summer of 2022, 55-year-old Yana Gutsenko voluntarily headed the occupation pension fund of the town of Oleshky, Kherson district, Kherson region. For this crime, the Kherson City Court found her guilty of treason in absentia. The sentence is life imprisonment with confiscation of all property.

This was reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism.

According to the CJR, Gutsenko is in charge of the Oleshky service center of the Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Kherson region, which was seized by Russian military personnel. The woman performs organizational and administrative functions in favor of the occupation authorities.

"In particular, in order to maintain a positive image of the occupation administration, she accrues so-called material assistance from the Russian Federation in the amount of 10 thousand rubles to the residents of Oleshky, " the court said in its verdict.

In court, witnesses said that they saw Hutsenko, together with Russian soldiers, opening the door to the seized building of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Oleshky.

"She told me that the Ukrainian authorities were not here, that the Russian authorities would be and that she was updating the registers of pensioners to pay Russian pensions in Oleshky," the witness said.

The court found Yana Gutsenko guilty of high treason in absentia. She was sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of all her property. The term of her sentence will be counted from the moment she is actually detained to execute the sentence. The court verdict has already entered into force.

Earlier, a judge of the Kherson City Court found Dmytro Bolbot, a former deputy of the Kherson City Council of several convocations from the Party of Regions and Nash Krai, guilty of collaboration and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. Also, a judge of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv found Ihor Shevchenko , who had worked in the prosecutor's office of Ukraine since 2001 and joined the Russians during the occupation of Crimea, guilty of treason and sentenced him to 14 years in prison with the deprivation of his special title of "senior adviser of justice".
