Investigators have sent to court a case of unauthorized occupation of almost 18 hectares of agricultural land in the Bessarabian community of Odesa region.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the citizen was exposed for illegal activities last summer.

During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers found that in early 2024, a local 48-year-old man, without any permits, illegally occupied a land plot on the territory of the Yariv Starosta District near the Kyrgyz-China River, deciding to make some money on it.

Last spring, he sowed the land with sunflower seeds, hoping to make a profit.

An expert examination conducted as part of the criminal proceedings confirmed that the amount of damage caused by the unauthorized occupation of the land plot to the Bessarabian village council amounted to almost UAH 158 thousand.

If his guilt is proven, the offender faces a fine of up to UAH 5.1 thousand or probationary supervision for up to two years for unauthorized occupation of a land plot that caused significant damage to its owner.

Earlier, in Bolhradsky district, police brought to court the case of a farmer who illegally created an artificial reservoir to irrigate his field. According to the State Environmental Inspectorate, the man removed the soil layer on a 0.1782-hectare plot, seizing more than 6,300 cubic meters of land.

Another resident of the Bolhrad region seized the land and built sheds for animals in the border area.

A farmer from Izmail district in Odesa region was accused of unauthorized seizure of a land plot near Lake Katlabukh. The agronomist was interested in the land plot. He decided to cultivate and plant it without having any permits for the land.
