The NGOs Zakhystaneni and Odesa City Development Fund have launched the Neighborhood Yards project, aimed at supporting yard mini-projects.
According to the project organizers, this is not a competition or any kind of non-competition between yards, but an opportunity to go from an idea to joint action with neighbors.
"Do you have an idea in your yard that you've been wanting to implement for a long time? A front garden, a bench, a place for socializing, a small event, a space for children, lighting, order at the entrance, or something of your own? We will help you: gather residents; discuss the needs of the yard; make a heat map; choose a common idea; take into account different opinions; prepare a mini-project; get support for materials up to UAH 10 thousand," the project authors noted.
The organizers will work with residents using the 4x4 methodology: Four systems: communication, decision-making, safety, and conflict resolution. Four values: voluntariness, inclusion, equality, and tolerance.
"The main thing is not just funding. The main thing is that the mini-project will help the yard become more united, safer and able to negotiate. Who can join: yard residents, initiative neighbors, condominiums, yard teams, active groups," the organizers said.
To participate in the project you need to:
Applications are accepted until May 15. The project was implemented with the support of the international peacekeeping organization Pro Peace Forum Civil Peace Service - Ukraine.
Back in 2019, the NGO "Zakisovaneni", with the support of the Civil Peace Service Forum, implemented the project "Strengthening the capacity of Odesa courtyards as public spaces where the culture of cohabitation is promoted and practiced through the implementation of an educational program for local community activists", aimed at strengthening and engaging neighbors in transforming their courtyards into open spaces for civic activity, developing decision-making skills, and improving the social climate in the city of Odesa.
