Odesa Contractor Charged with Embezzling ₴88,000 in Repair Scam

The head of a contracting company that repaired entrances to residential buildings in Odesa was put in the dock. He was charged with several articles, including embezzlement of budget funds.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.

They said that a private construction company that had signed a contract with a housing and communal enterprise was supposed to carry out repairs at the entrance of the house. However, the acting director of the contractor decided to "save money" on the work without performing it in full. In official documents, he overstated the scope and cost of the work performed.

As a result, the company received the full amount of payment from the state budget, and the official misappropriated UAH 88 thousand.

During the investigation, which was conducted under the supervision of the Prymorskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa, law enforcement officers collected sufficient evidence. The person involved in the case was charged under:

• Part 2 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - misappropriation of funds through abuse of office;
• Part 1 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - entering deliberately false information into official documents.

The maximum penalty for these crimes is up to five years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions for three years.

The indictment has already been submitted to the court, and the defendant has compensated the damages.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officers exposed a large-scale scheme of illegal toxic waste dumping in Odesa region. A deputy of the Safianivka village council and four other people who organized an illegal land pollution business are at the center of the criminal activity.

Also in Odesa, an official of a municipal institution purchased anti-parking bollards at inflated prices. The case is being investigated by the police.

In Odesa, an official of the city council will be tried for negligence, which caused large losses to the city budget. She signed a contract for the purchase of 17 gasoline generators for the shelters of educational institutions in Khadzhibey district.
