Residential buildings and social infrastructure damaged by Russian shelling are being restored in Mykolaiv's Korabelny district. The work is being carried out with the financial support of the Kingdom of Denmark and the United Nations.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.
In particular, damaged windows and doors are being replaced in 25 high-rise buildings, and roofs and facades are being repaired. In addition to residential buildings, sports grounds destroyed by shelling are also being restored. They are already equipped with new fences, lighting, benches, trash cans and modern sports equipment.
"We have built two playgrounds in this area from scratch. This is modern equipment that will serve for 20-30 years. We are also working on 25 multi-storey buildings here that were also damaged," said Vitaliy Nazarenko, a civil engineer at UNOPS.
According to UNOPS representatives, the equipment installed is designed to last for decades, and comprehensive repairs will help residents return to normal life as soon as possible.
Intent has already written about how Denmark has allocated more than EUR 26 million to Mykolaiv region to restore energy, transport, water supply and humanitarian demining. This assistance is aimed at improving critical infrastructure and increasing security in the region.
Meanwhile, a major reconstruction of the shelling-affected neighborhoods in Mykolaiv continues, including the reconstruction of the Lisky neighborhood with the support of Denmark. The project includes the restoration of 12 buildings, repair of intra-neighborhood roads and pedestrian areas, and replacement of windows and balconies in apartments.
In addition, thanks to the Danish government, the city can receive additional funding to purchase nine more autonomous trolleybuses. A grant of EUR 3.9 million has already been received for the purchase of trolleybuses, six of which are already on the routes, and the remaining three are expected.
