On September 30, the term of office of the Danish Ambassador to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen ends. To mark the occasion, Mykolaiv awarded the diplomat with the Mykolaiv City Badge of Honor.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.
The presentation took place on September 24 during a farewell reception hosted by the Ambassador. The award was presented by Deputy Mayor Serhiy Korenev. This award is intended for those who are not residents of the city but have made a significant contribution to its development and assistance since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
Ambassador Mikkelsen emphasized that he sees this award as a recognition of the strong partnership between Denmark and Ukraine, which has developed intensively since 2022. Ole Egberg Mikkelsen has also received awards from the Mykolaiv Regional Council and the State Emergency Service, and last month he was awarded the Order of Merit II degree from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As a reminder, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Danish government are launching a large-scale three-year project called the Strategic Partnership for Mykolaiv, with a budget of more than $36 million to be spent on the city's recovery and development.
The initiative, which is part of long-term assistance to Ukraine, aims to improve the living conditions of local residents, help IDPs return, and provide support to the most vulnerable. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, the project focuses not only on rebuilding infrastructure but also on creating better living conditions in war-affected communities.
The Strategic Partnership for Mykolaiv project will work in three main areas: strengthening local governance, rebuilding critical and social infrastructure, and economic growth, which includes stimulating the local economy and creating jobs.
