Mykolaiv has a quarter less first-graders

The number of schoolchildren in Mykolaiv continues to decline. Currently, there are about <b>35,000 students</b> in the city, which is 11,000 less than before the full-scale invasion.

This was reported by the Head of the Education Department , Anna Lychko, on the air of the Mykolaiv City Council.

At the same time, the number of parents choosing full-time or blended learning for their children has increased. While last year 51% of students chose this format, this school year this figure has increased to 69%. The remaining 31% of students continue to study fully remotely. According to the official, each parent makes this decision independently.

The number of students is decreasing among both the youngest and the oldest. This year, 2411 students are planning to enter the first grade, while by February 2022, there were 4533 students. The situation in the 10th grade is similar: instead of 74 classes with 2297 students, there are now 61 classes with 1857 students.

UAH 146 million was allocated for school meals in Mykolaiv. The Department of Education of Mykolaiv City Council has announced an open tender with special conditions for the provision of catering services in the city's schools. The tender involves the purchase of catering services for a total of UAH 146.3 million. The services will cover all general secondary education institutions in Mykolaiv from September 1 to December 31, 2025.

In March, schools in Mykolaiv region received more than UAH 6.5 million to improve the nutrition of students. The funds provided by the UN World Food Program will be used to purchase better quality products and repair canteens in 26 territorial communities of the region.
