Mykolaiv Council Fails Again to Remove Ex-Deputy Kormyshkin from Committee

The commission recommended that former Mykolaiv regional council deputy Yuriy Kormyshkin be removed from the city council's executive committee. This is not the first attempt to resolve this issue, as the decision cannot be supported at the city council session.

This decision was discussed during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council's specialized committee on human rights, legality and transparency. It was about the termination of the ex-deputy's powers as a member of the executive committee.

According to Olena Kiselyova, the chair of the commission, if there had been no statement by Kormyshkin himself or his lawyer, he could have been expelled based on the decision of the Anti-Corruption Court. At the same time, one of the deputies noted that such a court decision does not require additional approval from the city council.

Kateryna Dovbenko , head of the department of the city council, explained why the draft decision does not refer to the decision of the High Anti-Corruption Court. According to her, the document has not been officially submitted to the city council and is not subject to publication in the Unified Register of Court Decisions, so it is legally impossible to refer to it. Nevertheless, the commission made a recommendation to uphold the decision.

However, on January 30, during the 40th session of the Mykolaiv City Council, the deputies again failed to support the exclusion of the former deputy from the executive committee - only 23 out of the required 28 voted in favor. This is the third failed attempt - the previous consideration took place in October last year, but then there were also not enough votes.

In late January, the court imposed a bail of UAH 15 million on Yuriy Kormyshkin. According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, he is suspected of trying to legalize property belonging to his wife through a series of financial transactions. The investigation believes that the MP tried to conceal the source of the funds.

The former MP publicly commented on his detention, stating that it was the result of unlawful pressure from the security forces. And in early 2025, the NABU and the SAPO announced a new suspicion against MP Iryna Kormyshkina, accusing her of misrepresenting information in her e-declaration.
