Military unit in Kherson region overpaid a million for bread

The former head of the food service of a military unit in Kherson region is suspected of purchasing bread at inflated prices, which resulted in overpayments of more than a million hryvnias. The contract was concluded with an entrepreneur who sold products for more than UAH 9 more than the market price.

The State Bureau of Investigation has served a notice of suspicion to the former head of the food service of one of the military units stationed in Kherson region.

According to the investigation, in 2023, the official entered into a contract for the supply of bread with an entrepreneur who sold products at an inflated price - more than UAH 9 above the market average.

The total value of the contract was UAH 3.5 million, of which more than UAH 1 million was overpaid from the budget. The former official is charged with abuse of office to obtain an unlawful benefit for another person under Part 2 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 6 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the possible conspiracy with the supplier. The Kherson Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region is providing procedural guidance in the case.

In early April, SBI officers, together with the SID of the National Police, completed a pre-trial investigation against a city council deputy from Kirovohrad region and his accomplices who organized a scheme to supply low-quality clothing to the military. The accomplices bought inexpensive clothes without certification, which only resembled military uniforms but did not meet the requirements of the Ministry of Defense.

In February, a division commander of a military unit in the Kherson sector was exposed for regularly extorting money from his subordinates. The amount of illegal fees received by the official exceeds one million hryvnias. The offender actually "sold" vacations to the military and then concealed their absence from the command.
