Man Detained in Kherson for Collaborating with Occupiers Faces 15 Years

A man who collaborated with the occupiers in a seized colony in Kherson region was detained after the region was de-occupied. The traitor was charged with voluntarily holding a position in an illegal law enforcement agency, for which he faces up to 15 years in prison.

SBI officers have completed an investigation into a resident of Kherson region who collaborated with the occupiers in the seized colony. The indictment has been submitted to court.

In 2022, after the seizure of part of Kherson region by Russian troops, the man voluntarily joined the occupation authorities and got a job in Dariivka Penal Colony #10. From June 2022, he held the position of "junior inspector of the security department" and received a salary in rubles.

After the de-occupation, he remained in the territory controlled by Ukraine, concealing the fact of cooperation with the occupiers, moved to another region and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In February 2025, the SBI, together with the SBU, found and detained the man in Kharkiv region. The court imposed on him a measure of restraint in the form of detention.

The man is accused of voluntarily holding a position in an illegal occupation law enforcement agency in the temporarily occupied territory (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The former SBU officer in Crimea was also suspected of collaborative activities, in particular, of cooperation with the FSB. The investigation believes that he voluntarily joined an illegal armed group that carried out repressions in the Kherson region. This structure organized the abduction, torture and murder of civilians in the region.

In addition, Kherson police investigators served a notice of suspicion to a Russian police officer who participated in the illegal detention and imprisonment of a Kherson civilian. During the occupation of the city, he conducted operations, delivering civilians to torture chambers where they were tortured.

Recently, two residents of Kherson were also notified of suspicion of collaborating with the occupiers during the pseudo-referendum in 2022. They were actively involved in the work of fake election commissions and were notified in absentia of suspicion of collaboration.
