Kherson School Reconstruction Starts: ₴214M Project to Upgrade Facilities

In the Kherson region, a school that was damaged by shelling is to be reconstructed: a kindergarten, a shelter, a stadium, and all communications will be completed. The total cost of the project exceeds 214 million hryvnias, of which only 17% has been funded so far.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the DREAM ecosystem.

Due to enemy shelling, the building of the Arkhangelsk hub general secondary education institution in Kherson region was severely damaged: shell fragments damaged windows, doors, facade, and roof. The walls and ceilings are collapsing due to leaks, which poses a threat to students and staff. In this regard, the community decided to reconstruct the school.

According to the description, the project involves the complete renovation of the school building, the completion of premises for the kindergarten, and the arrangement of a full-fledged shelter on the school grounds. The design and estimate documentation has already been approved.

The reconstruction includes facade insulation, replacement of all communications, a new roof, and modernization of heating, water supply, and electrical systems. It is also planned to create a resource room, a media library, an assembly hall, sports grounds and a dining room with new equipment. Particular attention will be paid to inclusion - the project takes into account the needs of children with disabilities.

Part of the funds - UAH 35 million - were allocated from the state fund for the elimination of the consequences of armed aggression. The total cost of the project is over UAH 214 million.

In addition, a stadium and a training ground for basic military training will be built near the school, as well as playgrounds for different age groups, bicycle parking, and a modern medical office.

The Kherson lyceum also plans to upgrade its canteen with a modernBasicKitchen model to provide meals for 340 students. Almost UAH 200,000 of the 10 million has already been allocated for the project. And in the basement of Kherson Gymnasium No. 1, they plan to build an autonomous bomb shelter. Last year, 200 thousand hryvnias were allocated from the city budget for design and expertise, but more than 17 million more are needed to complete the work.
