Izmail decided to turn the shipping company building into housing for IDPs

The Executive Committee of the Izmail City Council has supported the proposal of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company to implement a project of a temporary housing shelter for internally displaced persons in Izmail, Odesa region.

This was reported by Intent with reference to the decision of the executive committee of April 23.

The project envisages the reconstruction of an old two-story administrative building at 25 Khotynska Street, which is on the balance sheet of the shipping company. After modernization, the premises are planned to be used to provide housing for internally displaced persons living in the territory of the Izmail city territorial community.

The initiative will be implemented within the framework of the Ukraine Partnership Facility grant program, organized with the support of the Dutch government. The Executive Committee also authorized Mayor Andriy Abramchenko to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Izmail City Council and the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company.

The document on cooperation should be submitted for approval by the deputies of the Izmail City Council. The relevant draft decision will be included in the agenda of the next session of the city council.

On the night of April 25, the Russian army massively attacked the civilian and port infrastructure of southern Odesa region with drones. Port equipment was also damaged, and a service station building was destroyed and subsequently caught fire. Two passenger buses and seven cars were destroyed. Six private houses were also hit, and their roofs were damaged. An ambulance was also damaged. However, according to preliminary reports, there were no fatalities or injuries. Emergency and utility services are working on the ground to eliminate the consequences.
