The Executive Committee of the Izmail City Council has approved adjustments to the 2025 program to regulate the number of stray animals in the city with a total budget of UAH 4 million.
This was reported by an Intent correspondent with reference to the decision of the executive committee of February 17, No. 120.
As stated in the document, 1600 stray animals are to be sterilized, vaccinated and identified in 2025 with the participation of public associations and NGOs.
At the initiative of the Housing and Communal Services Department, it was decided to supplement the list of program activities with a clause on providing financial support (reimbursement of expenses) for the stay of specialists involved in the sterilization of stray dogs. No specific amount has been allocated for this item of expenditure, but the total budget of the annual program has remained unchanged and, as we have already noted, amounts to 4 million.
It should be noted that this refers to specialists who come to Izmail from international, all-Ukrainian, and regional non-profit projects. In particular, in 2021, a team from the international charity foundation Four Paws came to Izmail to sterilize 201 four-legged stray animals. At that time, the city also reimbursed the costs of hosting the animal volunteers.
In 2022, local animal rights activists from the Cotopes NGO carried out similar activities in the city, vaccinating and sterilizing 155 tails. And from September 33 to October 1, 2023, specialists from the White Angel charity project worked in Izmail, during which 192 stray animals were vaccinated and sterilized. In 2024, 800 animals were treated by the NGO Cotopes.
It should be added that during the above years, NGOs have been entering information about their sterilized animals into the electronic register of stray animals, which is managed by the city's Housing and Communal Services Department.
