Odesa plans to create new pedestrian zones on the Black Sea coast and in the city center. The city authorities have updated the rules for vehicle access and are setting up areas for walking for residents and tourists.

The decision was made by the Executive Committee of the Odesa City Council.

The Executive Committee decided to create pedestrian zones on certain parts of the Black Sea coast and in the central part of the city.

In particular, pedestrian zones will be set up

The responsibility for developing traffic management schemes and installing road signs is vested in the municipal institution "Specialized Installation and Maintenance Unit" of Odesa City Council. At the same time, the Department of Transport, Communications and Traffic Organization together with the unit will ensure control over the access to pedestrian zones.

In addition, the previous decisions of the City Council of 2016 were amended: instead of Municipal Security, control over pedestrian zones was transferred to the Specialized Installation and Maintenance Unit. The 2016 decision to restrict the entry of vehicles to the coastal zone has been invalidated.

Thus, Odesa has strengthened the pedestrian infrastructure on popular coastal routes and in the city center, creating more comfortable conditions for recreation and walking for residents and tourists.

Last year, the rules for the equipment and operation of beaches previously established by the Odesa City Council lost their relevance due to changes in legislation.

The fact is that the Law of Ukraine "On the Lease of State and Communal Property" no longer allows beaches to be leased as amenities or waterworks, as was done under the City Council's rules of 2007.

Now beaches can be leased only as land plots of the water fund - through open land auctions. The rent is higher, and it is forbidden to build anything on the beach.
