The Kyiv District Court of Odesa found two citizens guilty of influence peddling and sentenced them to fines totaling UAH 418.2 thousand.

As stated in the court's verdict, each of the convicts must pay UAH 209.1 thousand.

In June, the convicts - an entrepreneur and the head of the association of co-owners of apartment buildings "Prostranstvo" - learned about the citizen's stay in the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCS) and promised the man to influence the decision-making of the employees of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCS) so that he would not be mobilized.

They asked the client for a bribe of USD 6-7 thousand for their help, and later increased the demand to USD 8 thousand. However, the client turned to law enforcement instead.

On June 30, in the courtyard of the house 12/4 on Varnenska Street in Odesa, the convicts told the client about the possibility of drawing up documents for the care of his father in order to obtain a deferral from mobilization for the illegal benefit, which had already increased to 11 thousand US dollars with the possibility of a phased payment and the first part of the illegal benefit in the amount of 5 thousand US dollars. On July 2, law enforcement officers detained the offenders during the transfer of these 5 thousand dollars.

During the court hearing, both defendants pleaded guilty, repented, and asked not to be punished severely. When imposing the penalty, the court noted that it was aimed not only at punishment, but also at reforming the convicts, as well as at preventing the commission of new crimes by both the convicts and others, and decided that sincere repentance was a mitigating circumstance, just like a guilty plea. Therefore, the judges limited the sentence to a fine rather than imprisonment, which can reach two to five years for this crime.
