Prosecutors of the Odesa Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Southern Region have served a notice of suspicion to the head of a dormitory at a military campus.

According to military law enforcement, she demanded a bribe for the allocation of service housing to a serviceman.

According to the investigation, the head of the dormitory demanded USD 4.5 thousand in illegal benefits from the serviceman.

She promised to influence the decision of the officials of the housing and maintenance department of Odesa city to assign a specific room to the serviceman and help with the paperwork for him and his family.

After receiving the money, she was detained by law enforcement officers right on the territory of the military camp. The suspect was chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative in the form of bail in the amount of UAH 408,780, which was paid.

The woman was charged with obtaining an unlawful benefit for herself for influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefit (part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

If found guilty, the suspect faces 3 to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

However, it is possible that she will make a deal with the investigation and will not receive a real term. For example, the Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa approved an agreement concluded between the prosecutor of the Bilyaevsky District Prosecutor's Office and the former deputy head of the Southern Interregional Forestry and Hunting Department of the State Forestry Agency, Bohdan Lozian, on the latter's plea of guilty to bribery. Under the agreement, Bohdan Lozian's six-year prison sentence with disqualification to hold positions related to the exercise of governmental functions for three years without confiscation of property was replaced by a three-year probationary period.
