Mykolaiv signed agreements with international companies to improve water supply, energy efficiency, and urban infrastructure development. Several important meetings and presentations were held during the visit to Denmark.
This was reported by Vitaliy Kim, Head of Mykolaiv Regional Water Authority.
The Mykolaiv delegation held discussions with representatives of 20 global brands operating in the water supply and sanitation sector. Among them are such market leaders as Grundfos, Leakman, Skytem, Niras, Danfoss, Karmstrup and Nissen Energy. This meeting laid the groundwork for further cooperation in modernizing Mykolaiv's water supply system.
One of the key events was the launch of a cooperation project between Aalborg and Mykolaiv in the field of district heating. The project aims to introduce automated control systems, optimize water quality, and install modern Danish equipment. This allows not only to increase energy efficiency but also to make heat supply environmentally friendly. The project will be implemented in partnership with Mykolaivvodokanal and Mykolaivoblteploenergo.
During the talks between Vitaly Kim and the Mayor of Aalborg Lasse Freeman Jensen, the parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the economic, educational and cultural spheres. Special attention was paid to cooperation between the universities of Aalborg and the National University of Shipbuilding in Mykolaiv.
The European Investment Bank recently provided funds to the city to restore the water supply. The €7.8 million financing will be used to modernize water supply and wastewater treatment systems, which is critical after infrastructure damage caused by Russian shelling.
The problem with drinking water in Mykolaiv has been discussed for more than 2 years, so one of the main areas of work of the Infrastructure Recovery Agency for the next year is the construction of a water pipeline. International partners are providing technical consultants for independent monitoring.
In September, NEFCO and the Mykolaiv city administration signed a grant agreement to reconstruct the water supply system. Thanks to Denmark's financial support, more than 70,600 residents of the Korabelnyi district, including about 6,800 internally displaced persons, will receive improved water supply.
For almost 3 years, Mykolaiv has been living without potable water in the tap. The occupiers deliberately blew up the water supply system at its most critical point during their attack on the city on April 12, 2022. For the first month after the explosion, there was no water at all, but later it appeared - dirty and prohibited for use. To date, the water supply has not been restored.
