Former Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and his deputies were served with a notice of suspicion of negligence that led to the deaths of people during the floods on September 30. According to the investigation, the officials failed to provide an adequate response to the disaster and allowed large-scale consequences of the weather.

This was reported by Odesa journalist Iryna Hryb.

The former officials were served with a notice of suspicion on the evening of October 28, right in the parking lot of the Ark Spa complex. The investigation believes that Trukhanov and his subordinates failed to take appropriate measures before, during and after the large-scale flood that killed at least 10 people in Odesa.

According to the journalist, nine people have been suspected under Part 3 of Article 367 - official negligence - in addition to Gennadiy Trukhanov, including his deputies Anna Pozdnyakova and Valeriy Silin, director of the City Roads utility Vadym Todiychuk, and director of the Municipal Economy Department Leonid Hrebenyuk. New suspicions and possible detentions of several high-ranking officials are also expected.

Later, Suspilne provided information that searches were underway in the homes of the former mayor and his deputies.

According to the journalists, the suspects were also served with a request for a preventive measure. The court hearing on the preventive measure is scheduled for tomorrow.

The storm that hit Odesa on September 30 caused significant damage, flooding the streets, causing power outages, damaging property and toppling hundreds of trees. About 300 private and 400 apartment buildings were damaged, and 10 people died.

On the evening of October 12, Gennadiy Trukhanov said that the authorities were allegedly planning to deprive him of Ukrainian citizenship because of suspicions that he had a Russian Federation passport. On October 14, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree officially depriving the official of Ukrainian citizenship.

On October 15, the President signed a decree appointing the head of the Dnipropetrovs'k Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, as the head of the newly created Odesa City Military Administration.
