A former Ukrainian Navy officer will be tried for high treason and desertion. The Special Prosecutor's Office of Odesa region has submitted the case of the military officer to court.

This was reported by the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, in March 2014, during the occupation of Crimea, the lieutenant colonel refused to obey an order and did not join the military unit, which was transferred to a new location.

Subsequently, the former officer openly refused to perform military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and went on the run to the enemy.

The prosecutor's office noted that the military officer subsequently signed a contract and is still serving in the Russian armed forces in various positions, including as deputy regimental commander for personnel of military unit No. 86863 (68th separate marine engineering regiment of the 22nd army corps of the black sea fleet of the Russian Federation).

Prosecutors sent an indictment to the court against the former deputy head of the center for work with the personnel of the Ukrainian Navy. He is accused of high treason and desertion (Article 111, Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Due to the fact that the suspect is in the temporarily occupied territory, the investigation was conducted in absentia by SBI investigators from Mykolaiv.

Earlier, the Special Prosecutor's Office of Mykolaiv region submitted to the court the case against the former commander of an anti-aircraft missile and artillery division of one of the Crimean military units.

Meanwhile, based on the SBU materials, a former official of the Kherson Regional State Administration received a real prison term. It is the former head of a department of the Kherson Regional State Administration, Dmytro Tokarev-Talibov.

Earlier it was reported that the investigation into four former employees of the penitentiary service from Kherson region who collaborated with the enemy was completed.
