The Odesa Fishery Protection Patrol received a report of a massive death of aquatic bioresources in a reservoir within the village of Zherebkove, Podil district.
This was reported by the press service of the State Agency of Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine.
To verify the information and respond appropriately, fisheries conservationists, together with local authorities, representatives of the State Ecological Inspectorate, the State Food and Consumer Service, and the State Emergency Service, arrived at the scene and established the death of young silver carp. The water had an unnatural bright pink color.
Based on the results of the inspection of the reservoir, fishery conservationists drew up a relevant report. At the same time, in order to establish the causes of the death of aquatic bioresources, employees of the State Ecological Inspectorate took water samples for laboratory tests.
Currently, experts of the Odesa Fish Protection Patrol continue to monitor the situation on the reservoir.
In March, a massive fish kill was also recorded in the Dniester Estuary in Odesa Oblast. The incident occurred near the village of Vypasne, which is part of the Molohiv community.
Mass fish kills are not uncommon in Odesa region. Last year, state environmental inspectors found the fact of suffocation of aquatic bioresources in the Paliyivska Bay of the Khadzhibey Estuary. The experts found that the maximum permissible concentrations of ammonium nitrogen were exceeded by 66 times.
Earlier, the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District reported that it had found out the causes of fish death in the Zhelyavsky Canal, which connects Katlabukh Lake with the Danube River in Izmail district of Odesa region.
Fish deaths were also reported in Mykolaiv region, where a massive fish kill was spotted on the banks of the Southern Bug River in the Matviyivka neighborhood of Mykolaiv.
