The Consulate General of Romania in Odesa has resumed its public relations activities in Odesa municipality in an on-site format.
According to the consulate's press service, initially, on October 16, this activity will be temporarily carried out in the premises of the Premier Hotel in Odesa until the administrative issues necessary for the full resumption of the mission's activities at its headquarters are resolved.
"For more information and to make an appointment regarding the available emergency consular services (travel documents, notarial deeds, applications for refusal of temporary protection granted by the Romanian state, signing declarations of belonging to the Romanian cultural identity), interested persons are asked to contact the following email address: consulat.itinerant.odesa@gmail.com," the consulate said.
In June, representatives of Romanian cultural associations in Odesa region sent an open letter to Romanian President Nicușor Dan, the Romanian Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, insisting on the reopening of the Consulate General of Romania in Odesa.
In the document sent to the Romanian authorities, representatives of the Romanian community in Odesa region emphasized that the absence of the Romanian Consulate General in Odesa for more than three years has led to a vacuum of institutional support, frustration, and an acute sense of marginalization among ethnic Romanians.
Since February 2022, during the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine, the Consulate General of Romania in Odesa has been closed. Representatives of the Romanian diaspora insisted that it was the only closed consulate in Odesa besides the Russian one.
