In Odesa, two cases of unauthorized seizure of municipal land in the city's protected zones were uncovered. Illegal buildings threaten the historical environment and have already been the subject of litigation.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The Prymorskyi District Prosecutor's Office revealed two cases of squatting on communal land.
In the first case, a resident of a high-rise building on Vodoprovodna Street expanded his apartment by 260 square meters of adjacent territory in the sanitary protection zone, built a building there and surrounded it with a fence. To legalize the unauthorized construction, he changed the technical passport and divided the area into two separate apartments, one of which he officially registered.
The second case was recorded on Olhiyivska Street, where a woman occupied 25 square meters of land without permission and built an extension to her apartment. This area is part of the protected zone of the historic center and is part of the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The indictment against the offender has already been submitted to court.
According to the prosecutor's office, the offenses caused damage to the community and threaten the protected environment of Odesa. The investigation is being carried out by local police units.
In July, the Odesa District Administrative Court began considering the case of the development of Yukhym Fesenko's printing house and the Richelieu Theater at the suit filed by the Automaidan NGO. Earlier, the court held the last preparatory hearing on the lawsuit filed by Odesa-City, which is trying to cancel the orders of the Ministry of Culture and the regional department of culture to ban construction on these historic sites.
In 2021, despite community protests, Odesa-City dismantled the building of Fesenko's printing house and began construction in its place. A new residential complex has now been built but not yet commissioned.
