Coastal Defense Brigade starts recruiting in Odesa

The Fortieth Separate Coastal Defense Brigade, which has combat experience and defends the south of Ukraine from the enemy every day, has opened a recruiting center in the center of Odesa.

According to the brigade, infantrymen, tankers, artillerymen, unmanned aerial vehicle operators, medics, signalmen, and technicians are currently serving there.

The unit was formed in 2023, and the following year, in 2024, the brigade began performing its first combat missions in both southern and northern Ukraine. Later, the soldiers were redeployed to the Donetsk sector, and since August 2024, the brigade has been operating on the southern front again.

The main mission of the unit is already in its name: coastal defense. Currently, the 40th Brigade is focused on protecting the Ukrainian coastline in Kherson region.

The brigade is part of the Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy, so those who want to serve in the brigade or transfer to it are subject to increased requirements - both in terms of physical fitness and psychological endurance. This is due to the specifics of combat missions, which are often complex and non-standard.

In marine units, in particular the 40th Coastal Defense Brigade, the level of payments is indeed somewhat higher than in other units. This is due to the specifics of the service and the risks faced by marines.

Women who apply to serve in the brigade are interviewed and undergo mandatory psychological testing. After that, the materials are submitted for approval on the possibility of serving in the marines. Most women are currently serving in the medical unit, kitchen, as well as in clerical positions and other sectors that require responsibility and organization.
