A graduate of Odesa University Serhii Silantiev, who now works at one of the leading universities in the UK, returned to his alma mater with a series of lectures and scientific workshops. ONU has launched an international academic exchange program that gives students access to modern neurophysiology and world science.

This was reported by the press service of the Presidential Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports.

At the I. I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, Dr. Serhiy Silantiev, University of Aberdeen , gave an open lecture on "Biophysics, Physiology and Receptor Pharmacology of Excitable Cells". The event was held within the framework of the international UK-UA Visiting Professors Program, aimed at developing STEM education and scientific cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

During the lecture, students, postgraduates and teachers were introduced to modern methods of analyzing experimental data in neurophysiology and their practical application in medicine, in particular in the development of antiepileptic drugs. The visit of the scientist to Odesa will last until June 1 and will include a course in biophysics, practical classes in electrophysiology, mathematical modeling, work with software tools, and involvement of young researchers in joint research projects.

Serhii Silantiev is not only a British scientist but also a graduate of ONU. After graduating from the Faculty of Biology in Odesa, he worked and taught at leading universities around the world, including the Australian National University, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Aberdeen, where he continues his research.

The Presidential Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports emphasized that such initiatives are especially important in times of war, as they allow Ukrainian universities to maintain international academic ties and provide young people with access to global expertise without having to travel abroad.

Mr. Silantiev called his return to Odesa University a particularly important stage in his career. According to him, Ukrainian students should be integrated into the modern international scientific community, understand the mechanisms of research and see the prospects for their own development in the field of science.

ONU Mechnikov is among the ten Ukrainian universities selected to participate in the UK-UA Visiting Professors Program. The university already has a wide network of international partnerships - more than 100 foreign universities and dozens of joint academic programs and projects.

Also, the admission campaign in Ukraine becomes a serious challenge every year for both graduates and their parents. The focus of attention is always on the National Multisubject Test (NMT), a key stage on the way to the coveted higher education institution.

However, a lot of prejudice has arisen around the format of preparation and the effectiveness of distance learning in recent years. Intent has analyzed the most common myths to understand the real state of modern Ukrainian education.
