Agrarians warn of threat of grain export disruption due to attacks on Odesa ports

The agrarians supported an open letter from the owners of port operators to the government and international partners calling for urgent support for the port industry. The organization warned that further destruction of the port infrastructure in Odesa region could deal a crushing blow to the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

This was reported by the press service of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council.

The UAC reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale war, it has consistently advocated for the protection of maritime logistics, as ports ensure stable exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to world markets.

According to representatives of the agrarian community, ports are not just private business facilities, but strategic infrastructure that affects the operation of millions of hectares of Ukrainian agricultural land. A significant portion of exports of grains, oilseeds, and other agricultural products pass through the sea gates.

Farmers emphasized that the destruction of port facilities has a chain effect on the entire economy. In particular, logistics costs are rising, freight and cargo insurance are becoming more expensive, and grain prices for Ukrainian farmers are falling. As a result, the financial losses of ports are effectively passed on to agricultural producers.

Of particular concern is the possibility that terminals will lose their ability to quickly resume operations after attacks. In this case, export flows may be significantly reduced, warehouses will be overcrowded, and farmers risk being left without working capital for the next sowing campaign. The UAC believes that the consequences could go far beyond the agricultural sector.

In this regard, the UAC called on the government, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, as well as international partners to listen to the demands of port operators and expand war risk insurance and compensation programs for critical logistics infrastructure.

In 2025, Odesa region harvested more than 40 million tons of grains and pulses. The region confirmed its status as one of Ukraine's key agricultural leaders.
