The operational headquarters of the Izmail district military administration in Odesa region has announced the connection of Reni residents to a permanent power supply scheme.
This was reported by the RMA press service with reference to DTEK Odesa Power Grids.
"Currently, specialists are completing preparatory work, and the switchover process will begin tomorrow. All the work will take 2-3 days, but residents will feel the improvement of the situation from the first day of switching to the new power supply scheme," the administration said.
It should be noted that according to local residents, on December 9, the residents of Reniivka, dissatisfied with the situation, planned a rally and road blocking.
On the night of November 11, a Russian air attack in Odesa region resulted in one person being injured and a Ukrzaliznytsia depot being damaged. This time, the cities of Izmail and Reni came under attack. The latter is where the damaged depot is located. The city also lost power due to a fire at a substation. Local residents were told that the repairs would take up to two days. According to DTEK, 16,000 families were left without electricity.
Nine days after the shelling, residents of Reni started complaining that electricity was supplied for no more than two hours a day and the grid voltage was not enough to reach the required 220V. Meanwhile, DTEK Odesa Power Grids' chatbot provided information that the estimated resumption of consumption in Reni is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. on December 31, 2025. At the time, Intent explained this message as an operator error.
Residents of Reni did not stop complaining about power outages and low voltage in the grid when the power was restored. They even launched a flash mob to take pictures and publish the data.
In turn, Oleksandr Urbanskyi, deputy head of the Odesa regional council, said that Reni, unlike Izmail, receives electricity from Moldova. The line should be up to 10 kilometers long in order to transmit current without strong fluctuations. The existing line is approximately 30 kilometers long, and this is why there are power surges and frequent blackouts.
However, on December 1, the Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced a temporary suspension of crossing operations at the Reni checkpoint. This was due to the incorrect operation of the industrial power supply, which prevented the launch of control and metering devices, as well as problems with the operation of additional sources of generation.
