A foster family from Mykolaiv has received its own housing: four foster children will move into a house purchased with public funds.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council.
The Ostapchuk family, who moved from Kherson region after the de-occupation, received housing in Mykolaiv to raise four foster children. The house was purchased at the expense of a state subvention. International and Ukrainian partners, including UNICEF, SOS Children's Villages, Olena Zelenska Foundation, and the Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health, helped to equip the house with furniture and appliances.
Prior to moving to Mykolaiv, the family had survived the occupation and lost the ability to stay in their home due to constant shelling. In the new place, the couple decided to create a family-type children's home (FTC). Currently, the family is raising four children, but the status of a family-type children's home allows them to increase the number of children up to ten in the future.
On February 13, the family was officially handed over the housing documents. The city council assured that they will continue to support the family and help with the needs of the children.
Earlier, Ukrainian communities exceeded the mark of 100 foster families who signed contracts and started working since the beginning of 2024. 101 families were created in Mykolaiv region. According to the data, as of October 1, 101 new foster families were created in Ukraine, taking in 197 children whose parents are temporarily unable to provide proper care.
The one hundred and first foster family was the couple Zoryna and Viktor Kucherov, who signed an agreement with the Buzka village council in Mykolaiv region, becoming the first such family in the community.
