Free health screening in the South: where and how to go

Ukraine continuesthe Free Health Screening for 40+ program for a certain category of citizens.

Thus, Ukrainians aged 40 and over can have a comprehensive health checkup, and the state will pay for it through the Diia app.

The program will help to identify the risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and mental health problems at an early stage.

When you receive an invitation for a free screening

The invitation for screening comes 30 days after your birthday. For example, if your birthday was January 2 and you are 40 years old or older, you will receive your notification on February 1. Thus, the first notifications were sent toDiia on Saturday, January 31. On that day, people aged 40 and older who were born on January 1 received them.

Confirm your participation and the state will transfer funds to your Diia.Card. These funds can be spent only to pay for screening in medical institutions that have joined the program.

Where to get Screening 40+ if you do not use Diia?

In general, for those who use Diia, the place of registration does not matter - you can choose the city and healthcare facility that is convenient for you.

However, if you do not use Diia, you can still take the 40+ Screening. To do this, you need to order a plastic card with a special account at a partner bank and contact the ASC. Administrators will help you apply and link an account for payment.

For example, in Odesa, this service is provided by the ASC at 2d Kosovska Street. Service code: 089-1 "Receipt of state financial support for health screening by persons aged 40 and over". Appointments are made by appointment to the electronic queue through the ASC website, by phone (048) 705-55-55 or through the MISTO mobile application.

How the screening is carried out

Screening does not require special preparation. It is only recommended to refrain from intensive walking, smoking and drinking caffeinated beverages (tea, coffee) 30 minutes before the test.

1. Examination and examination by a doctor (physical examination)

During the screening visit, the doctor measures your blood pressure at least twice and determines the average value in order to detect hypertension, which is a leading risk factor for stroke and heart attack, but has no symptoms. If hypertension is suspected, home blood pressure monitoring or daily monitoring may be prescribed for more accurate diagnosis. The doctor also measures the pulse rate and rhythm to detect arrhythmia in a timely manner.

The doctor also conducts anthropometry: measures body weight, height, waist circumference, and determines body mass index. These indicators reveal the risks of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

2. Risk factor assessment and symptom screening

Thedoctor conducts a survey on factors that significantly affect the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes mellitus: smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, family history. The doctor also clarifies the presence of symptoms that may indicate early signs of disease.

3. Laboratory tests

The results of laboratory tests will be received no later than 72 hours after the visit.

If symptoms or a high risk of developing the disease are detected, the doctor will generate an electronic referral to a specialized specialist.

4. Doctor's consultation with recommendations for improving health

After all the examinations, the doctor and the patient formulate a personalized plan: how to improve nutrition; what kind of physical activity to choose; how to quit smoking or drinking alcohol; how to reduce body weight; how to control stress.
