The region has temporarily reduced the limits on water intake and use from surface water bodies. This decision, effective from September 19 to October 1, is due to a significant drop in water levels and the threat of environmental problems that could negatively affect the ecosystem and water supply.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.
Low water levels have led to low water levels in reservoirs and created a risk of pollution. Although consumption rates have been reduced, old water use permits remain in effect. After a set period of time, the rules will be returned to the previous regime. Such temporary restrictions are a standard procedure applied in the event of a threat of environmental problems, accidents, epidemics or natural disasters related to water resources.
Most of the Crimean reservoir has become mineralized and unsuitable for further agricultural use.
Analysis of the images from the occupied peninsula proves that it is impossible to use the reservoirs in the future. Instead, the enemy authorities are intent on launching the North Crimean Canal. According to Vladyslav Balinsky, a chemist, biologist, and head of the Green Leaf NGO in Odesa, if the water level is not raised, restoration is impossible. Moreover, irreversible processes have already begun elsewhere. The scientist states: "Mineralization can take place unnoticed and slowly, so if there is no monitoring of this process and it continues to grow on the soil, it will lead to a loss of fertility."
In particular, this year's dry weather has led to the shallowing of the rivers of the Azov Sea basin and the massive drying of the rivers of the Black Sea basin.
